Student Services Department

Dear Hand in Hand Parents/Guardians:

On behalf of Hand In Hand’s Student Services Department (SSD), I want to welcome you to the 2022 - 2023 school year!

I'd like to take this opportunity to explain to you what the Student Services Department (SSD) is and to let you know how much we are looking forward to this new school year and for the opportunity to partner with you to help your child succeed.

The SSD is a for-all department that offers K-12 student support.
The SSD consists of:

  • the Handle With Care Program
  • the School Counseling Program
  • and the Health Services Program
We are a team that is passionate about seeing every student flourish in his or her God given abilities.  We offer support to teachers, students, and parents for the direct benefit of students’ success within our school’s environment.

I am writing to request that all parents who have children with special needs whether academically, developmentally, behaviorally, and social/emotionally, that will need support at some level to be successful in the classroom/school setting to stop by my school counseling office (located in the Elementary hallway), after your teacher/welcome conference next Wednesday or Thursday.

It is so helpful for me to be able to meet with you so we (you as parents, the SSD team, and the classroom teacher) can all be on the same page and understand the most effective way to serve your child and what is the best support for your child.

I would love to have a brief, 15-minute conference with you to discuss:

  • how the special need impacts your child at school
  • why accommodations are needed
  • please provide documentation of the diagnosis and the professionally recommended accommodations
    • Please note: if your student is in grades 7-12, you must provide professional documentation of need and recommended accommodations
**This conference is important even if you have shared this information with the classroom teacher.**

If you are unable to meet with me next week, please email me at to schedule a phone conference or an in person meeting.

If we have already met and spoke about your child and his/her plan for the new school year, please feel free to disregard this email.

Please remember, we are not a Special Education Program and we cannot provide all services to all students.  In the event that your student will need more resources, I will work with you to establish a plan of support. I can also refer you to outside agencies for further support or connect you to the public school district for Special Education evaluation/services.

I hope your last few weeks of summer are fun and restful. I am excited to collaborate with you as we pave the way for a great school year!
